AspenBio Pharma is developing AppyScore to aid physicians in the management of patients who enter emergency departments with abdominal pain suspicious for appendicitis. The population of patients that will be studied in our upcoming pivotal clinical trial are children and adolescents. We anticipate that AppyScore™ will provide physicians with incremental, objective clinical information, through the test’s high negative predictive value and sensitivity, to aid in the management of the large number of patients who enter hospital emergency departments suspected of having acute appendicitis but at low risk of having the disease. The use of AppyScore could potentially reduce the number of CT scans performed, and thereby reduce radiation exposure and health care costs.
